Community Garden

Welcome to  the "Common Grounds" Community Garden page!

The Common Ground Community Garden officially opened on May 16, 2009.  Thirty-two plots were cultivated ranging in size from 6' x 12' to 12' x 24' consisting of perennial, annuals and/or vegetable gardens.

The garden project was inspired by the seventh Community Book Read through the Saginaw Charter Township Community Schools.  The book for 2009 was called "Seedfolks."  In the novel, 13 people - old, young, Haitian, Hispanic, tough, cheerful -- transform a Cleveland neighborhood with the planting of a community garden.

The garden today is the result of cooperation and hard work of volunteers and gardeners.  There are currently 104 garden plots.  Each garden is tended and harvested by a specific group, organization or individual.  They each provide their own plants and maintain their plot.

The growing season will end November 1.  You may keep your garden every year until you choose to turn it back in.  Requests for specific plots will be fulfilled if at all possible.

If you are interested in your own garden plot or have any questions, please contact Saginaw Township Recreation at (989) 791-9860.
