Fireworks Reminders

Earlier this year, Saginaw Charter Township adopted an ordinance governing the use of consumer fireworks.  As you may be aware, the State of Michigan changed the regulations regarding fireworks and has limited when communities can enforce certain regulations.

By State law, fireworks are permitted to be used until 1 am. on the following national holidays or the day before or after:
  • New Year's Day, January 1
  • Martin Luther King Day, third Monday in January
  • President's Day, third Monday in February
  • Memorial Day, last Monday in May
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, first Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, second Monday in October
  • Veteran's Day, November 11
  • Thanksgiving, fourth Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day, December 25

On all other days, no person is permitted to ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.  Violations are considered a civil infraction and a ticket may be issued.  Violations should be reported to the Police Department by calling 911 while the event is occurring.
