The Clean Sweep program is for disposal of pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) only. Fertilizers, surfactants or other unrelated chemicals will not be accepted. The reason for this is that the funding for this program comes from fees that are included in the purchase price of the pesticides that you buy. Pesticide manufacturers are required by law to ensure that their products are properly managed from the time of production until ultimate disposal (a.k.a. “Cradle to Grave”). This service is a part of that requirement. Therefore, no taxpayer money is used to run the program.
The program is geared mainly toward farmers, but is open to anyone with pesticides to dispose of. Dealers of pesticides may not use the program for free, but may dispose of excess pesticides through the program at cost.
